Vintage Curtains for My Bedroom

Vintage Curtains for My Bedroom

I gave my bedroom a good fall cleaning a couple of weeks ago. Shuffled the furniture a bit and then decided I needed new curtains! After a bit of thinking and trying to decide what I would want, I remembered I had a vintage curtain I picked up at an estate sale (Back in 2015! I blogged about it here.).

I was just one curtain panel and two valances, but it was made up of two pieces! And those two pieces happened to be almost the same size as my old curtains! So a bit of unpicking and an old sheet for lining and I have new curtains!

I love this print! My favorite colors, a bright light background and definitely a vintage flair!

It also happens to go really really well with the new summer quilt I am working on. You can see the quilt top to the left in the picture above hanging on the wall.

It just goes to show you can't go wrong buying things you love!

My Downstairs Bedroom

My Downstairs Bedroom

As you know, a year and a half ago I switched bedrooms with my sister Mandy. I was a bit sad to leave my upstairs nest, but for the six months previous I had been camping out in Mandy's room anyway (Because of allergies and the heat didn't doesn't really work upstairs, I wasn't sleeping very well upstairs).

It didn't take us very long to shift furniture, paint walls and swap light fixtures. But I didn't really give much thought to furniture arrangement and making the room mine. Finally this summer I knew how I wanted to re-arrange things. And I love it!

Kerri is in her usual spot!

She loves propping her paws up on the footboard!

This bedroom doesn't have quite as much cozy character as upstairs, but I love That there is at lest one piece of slanty ceiling! That is actually the bottom of the stairs going up.

I wasn't sure at first if I would bring my coat rack down, but I was really sad not too! I decided I would just find a place. And am so glad I did! It is so handy for my knitting bags, purses and sweaters.

I love how much light I get all throughout the day. Much sunnier then upstairs!

And a panoramic view!

Pink Christmas

Pink Christmas

It is probably no surprise to anyone that my room is decorated in Pink for Christmas! I was very excited to get out my pink Shiny Brights. In the old house I also hung them in my windows, but when I was upstairs they just felt like too much in the windows.

One of the projects I was working on before Christmas present making is a patchwork cover for my down comforter. I am so excited with how it turned out! It is not quite all the way finished, but hasn't stopped me from using it! I love down comforters, there is nothing quite as cozy.

Sometimes just a few decorations go a long way. So after hanging the ornaments in the window, my little Shiny Bright corsage on the mirror and crocheted snowflakes on my door I called it good. (Plus my dressing table has turned into a sewing table and is heaped with projects and fabric!)

Switching things up......

Switching things up......

You know how life goes sometimes? One has all sorts of plans laid out and life just gets in the way! That is what happened to this post. I had it practically written out in my head, the pictures planned out and everything. But it just didn't happen like I had planned. Anyway, I will go with the flow and start with what I have!
Remember back in February? I showed you Mandy's room before we switched things up? Well, here it is now! That is right! Mandy and I switched rooms!

It was a little bit of a bittersweet move for me. I loved my nest upstairs! But the last two winters I ended up sleeping downstairs because the cold was too much for me. The heat doesn't really get upstairs and even with an electric heater it was chilly. And since I am already a chilly person it just wasn't working.

Naturally the first thing we had to do was repaint walls. Mandy shuddered at the idea of even lightly pink walls and I certainly wanted my room brighter then brown! There was a lot of shifting of furniture, but we got most of it done in one Saturday.

One of the bonuses of having a bedroom downstairs is now my dressing table is more handy! I love being able to pop in here during the morning rush to do my hair and makeup. And with only one bathroom, that is a good thing for everyone!

Surprisingly, all my furniture fit in very nicely and easily. Once I figured out where I wanted my bed, the dresser and dressing table went where there was room. Most of the furniture upstairs in the sewing closet I left there, except the chair.

We even switched light fixtures! Because obviously a pink light was not going to go with a rustic western theme!

I thought a lot about what kind of curtains I wanted. I tried a few vintage sheets I have, but nothing seemed right. Then I remembered when I made the curtains for upstairs I had recycled an old comforter cover. I dug through my fabric stash to see if I had any left and I did! Who notices seams in the middle anyway?

And in case you are wondering, here is the new sewing closet! I was so relieved that it all fit. I love how easy it is to see it all! To the right, the closet goes back farther and I hung a closet pole for my shirts.

For future reference for myself, the paint color is a very soft light pink. I named it Rosy Glow. It is one part Valspar Ultra White and one part Valspar Exaltation. (I really wanted to paint it the same color as I did upstairs, but I couldn't find any record of what color it was.)
So that is our switch! We are pretty well settled in and are both enjoying our new spaces. Mandy is loving being upstairs with a bit more quiet and I love carrying on a conversation from my bedroom to Mom in her bedroom across the hall! Lol!
Don't forget to take a look at the room before!

A Cozy Bedroom

A Cozy Bedroom

We have been switching things up here at the bungalow. But before we get into that, I thought it would be nice to take a tour of how Mandy's bedroom looked before!
She has a completely different style then mine. A very cozy and warm bedroom.

Mandy loves her animals, so horses and dogs are plentiful! She had an understate Western/cowboy theme. Warm reds, blues and browns with a pop of rustic wood!

Mandy has been collecting vintage horse pictures for years! I love the collected English gallery wall look. Gallery walls are always a work in progress!

Isn't the vintage puppy plant adorable? He always makes me smile!

It is a little hard to see in this picture, but the lower half of the windows have grain sack curtains for privacy during the day. Our houses are so close to each other in this neighborhood that anyone walking up the neighbor's driveway has a bird's eye view into the bedroom!

Yes, that is our pup Kerri over the dresser. It is an art print I made from a picture (aren't computers amazing!)

So there is Mandy's cozy comfortable room BEFORE we switched things up! Stay tuned for the switch!

If you want to see how Mandy's room has changed, here it is in 2014 and in 2013.
