Cream or Sugar?

Cream or Sugar?

I seem to be starting a collection of cream and sugar dishes, especially creamers. You all know I have a weakness for pitchers..... Mini pitchers are even cuter!
And if they are cobalt blue glass, so much the better! I was thrilled to run across this set at an antique shop recently. I have never seen a prettier set. Don't you love the detail on the rim? At one time it also had a platinum edging.

I also have acquired these two creamers in the past year. They are so pretty I keep them on my dresser. I love the shape of the one on the left. It has a Bavarian stamp on the bottom. The other creamer on the right shouts 1920s to me. It doesn't have a mark on the bottom, so I can't be sure. But round shape + stripes + roses = 1920s in my opinion. What do you think? Can you imagine a marcelled matron in her drop-waist gown pouring cream from it?

Fire King Swirl Dishes

Fire King Swirl Dishes

Saturday the Sis and I hit a few estate sales. We found some good things. Most of it was for our booth we rent at our local antique store. I thought I did quite good as the only thing I kept was these dishes. It is so hard! We find such great stuff, I want to keep it all!

Made by the Anchor Hocking Co. in the 1950s, under their brand name "Fire King". It was a type of glassware that was oven proof. Made from the early 1940s throught the 60s, "Fire King" came in quite a few colors and patterns, including the ever popular "Fire King" green. These dishes are the "Swirl" pattern, sometimes called "Shell".

I had fallen in love with this pattern before and picked up one dinner plate. I now have five dinner plates, two soup bowls....

...A serving bowl and three fruit bowls!

Park Avenue Advert

Park Avenue Advert

Do you remember this glass from an earlier post? Well, my sister and I were looking through a few of my old magazines, and guess what she found??
From the Women's Home Journal 1946
Isn't that too cool! I can't beleive it was under my nose for years. Maybe that is why I like it.

Federal Glass Pitchers

Federal Glass Pitchers

Here is another of last weekend's finds! A small Starburst pitcher made by the Federal Glass Co. These were very popular in the 40s and 50s, I always see quite a few in the antique stores. I had been wanting another one and was trying to decide whether I should really spend money on another pitcher! (but a dollar! who can beat that!) On the left is the new one, on the right is the first one I bought a few years ago. These pitchers came in three sizes, so I still have one more to go. A lager one, I think. They are too pretty!

Also, in the last scene of State Fair, Mrs. Frake uses the same exact pitcher to serve lemonade on the porch!! Isn't that neat! One of the reasons I decided I needed them. State Fair is one of my favorite movies. I love how simple the story line is. And the songs are marvousless!! Who can do better then Rodgers and Hammerstein. Unfortunatly, I couldn't find a clip of the last scene. So I have included a clip of It Might as Well be Spring instead. But! In this song Margy and Mrs. Frake are both wearing aprons! So take note! I think I need to make a Margy apron, don't you? Too cute!
