Argentine cruiser General Belgrano sinks after being torpedoed. Falklands islands are a group of islands that lie off the coast of Argentina. It belongs to Britain. But Argentina too had claims on it. In 1982 the military government of the country occupied it to divert attention from the mess it had created at home.
Britain reacted immediately. PM Margaret Thatcher send British forces to free the islands.
