WARNING OF SEASONAL HACKER

The following has been received to warn regarding a seasonal hacker.  Please do not open anything from unrecognised senders.  Also be vigilant when emails are received from what appear to be known senders but the subject matter appears odd.  If friends systems have been hacked, it could be that you are on the receiving end of a nasty email which, if opened, would corrupt your system.    It is also worth switching off or taping over your webcam lens when not in use as a precaution.

'I write to once more encourage you to left click and delete all emails from unrecognised senders and especially from one currently active hacker, operating through an I.P. address in Moscow, corresponding in poorly worded English and possibly giving his name as William Moore. (or indeed any other name bearing the email address <gil@tucsoncfug.org>)

This person encourages the unsuspecting recipient to open a link which is now suspected of allowing him to invade your privacy by activating any unlocked webcam on your computer. He may additionally be using the same tactics to record address books and infect drives.

As an ongoing precaution I would encourage the taping over of any webcam lenses while they are not being used by yourself, and to similarly temporarily disable them by selecting this option on the privacy section of your Internet Security Programme.'
