First Wedding Anniversary Of A Modern Royal Romanian Couple

On 30 September, Nicholas and Alina-Maria of Romania celebrated their first wedding anniversary.

The pair were married on 30 September 2018 at Saint Elijah Church (Biserica Sfântul Ilie) in Sinaia. The wedding reception took place at Sinaia Casino. The Romanian Orthodox wedding ceremony was officiated by Archbishop Calinic, Archbishop of Arges and Muscel.


Nicholas is the only son of Princess Helen of Romania and her first husband Dr. Robin Medforth-Mills. He is the grandson of King Michael of Romania and Queen Anne (née Bourbon-Parma). Alina is the daughter of Heinz Binder and his wife Rodica Iancu.

The couple were civilly married on 6 October 2017 at Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. The engagement between Nicholas and Alina was announced in July 2017. Their wedding in Romania was the royal union to occur in the country since that of Princess Ileana of Romania, the aunt of Nicholas' grandfather King Michael, to Archduke Anton of Austria in 1931.
