International private security company ICTS is this month fully taking over the management of passenger and hand luggage checks and related services at Larnaca Airport.
ICTS has already taken on the duties at smaller Paphos Airport, freeing up the police officers previously assigned to the tasks, Transport Minister Marios Demetriades confirmed.
The security company responsible for these duties is assigned by the company responsible for managing Cyprus’ airports, Hermes Airports, in line with Civil Aviation Authority safety regulations, the minister also explained, responding to a query submitted by Green Party MP George Perdikis.According to Demetriades, Hermes Airports, after seeking tenders for the work, commissioned ICTS security service, which at first undertook the relevant tasks in conjunction with the Cyprus Police.
According to the agreed-on timeline, ICTS will fully assume the full staffing of all passenger checkpoints, cabin baggage and hand luggage checks and vehicle gate management in Larnaca this month. The duties passed into ICTS’s hands at Paphos Airport in August.
