The Ministry of Health will not receive on time the first batch of a total of 180,000 flu vaccines it has ordered and expected it to be delivered by the end of this month.
This is what Philenews reported on Tuesday citing insiders who also said that due to high demand worldwide the vaccines should arrive in Cyprus by mid October – the latest.
This development does not appear to affect plans by the Ministry and the Health Insurance Organisation on the vaccination of the island’s population since the prevailing weather conditions allow for some delays.
Cyprus health officials, in line with other European countries, plan an even greater push for flu vaccination this year to prevent hospitalisations and further strain on health systems already burdened by Covid-19.
In addition to the 180,000 flu vaccines, Cyprus has also submitted through EU procedures for the provision of 1.2 million doses of coronavirus vaccines.
