The Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 1,960 laboratory diagnoses identified 8 new cases of COVID-19 disease.

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

  • Of 28 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 5 cases were identified.
  • Of 455 samples taken through a private initiative, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 118 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 2 cases were identified.

In particular, they are:

  • 2 x Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals: Both individuals had symptoms. One had fever and myalgia, and the second had myalgia.
  • 5 x tracing: These are contacts of the case announced on 9/9 by the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals. On 9/11, two other people from her family home tested positive for the virus through tracing. Today's individuals are also from their family environment. The cluster has 9 people with today's.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From the laboratory testing program of 5,000 people aged 18-40 years in places with a high confusion of individuals, 188 laboratory tests were completed,
  • From the student control program, 2 laboratory tests were carried out,
  • From samples taken at the barricades, 72 laboratory tests were completed, and
  • From samples taken as part of the programme of referrals from Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics, 175 laboratory diagnoses were completed.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases is 1,534.

In addition, four people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at Famagusta General Hospital, one of whom is in the Increased Care Unit. He's been discharged. A COVID-19 patient is being treated outside the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital.
