The Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 1,951 laboratory diagnoses identified 10 new cases of COVID-19 disease.

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

  • Of 81 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 7 cases were identified.
  • Of 27 samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 507 samples taken through a private initiative, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 645 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 1 case was identified.

Specific:

  • 1 was identified by a private initiative: This is a person who did the test on a private initiative, with no symptoms.
  • 1 at the Puriara migrant shelter: This is a Syrian who came through occupied and was spotted with nine others and arrested in Mammari on 14/9. Yesterday another person from that group was announced. He was transferred to Eden.
  • 1 from flight: This is a British man who came from London to Paphos on 16/9.
  • 7 through tracing, including one through a private initiative and another from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals:
  1. The 1st person is contacted by the family environment of people who were positively reported to the virus on 25/8 (immigrants). They were all subjected to laboratory testing to release from quarantine the 2 cases that were from 25/8.
  2. The second person is from the family environment of the person announced yesterday by the case contact tracker detected on 14/9. He did the test privately. Today's cluster has 3 people.
  3. The 3rd person is a colleague of the employee of the Ocean Basket Fichinides announced on 15/9.
  4. Two people are contacts from the friendly environment of the British woman announced on 14/9. Yesterday, a person from her family environment was announced. Total in cluster 4 people.
  5. Two people are colleagues of the worker in the Metropolis of Kitio announced on 14/9. The cluster has a total of 2 current, 16 people, but not all are primary links to the 1st case (9/9).

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From the laboratory testing programme of 5,000 people aged 18-40 years in places with a high confusion of individuals, 28 laboratory tests were completed,
  • From samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 76 laboratory tests were completed,
  • From samples taken as part of the programme of referrals from Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics, 138 laboratory diagnoses were carried out,
  • Of the samples taken by the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tylliria, 48 laboratory diagnoses were completed,
  • From samples taken at the barricades, 56 laboratory tests were completed, and
  • Samples taken as part of the student, teacher and school staff control programme completed 345 laboratory diagnoses.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 1,558.

In addition, six people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at Famagusta General Hospital, two of whom are in the Increased Care Unit. A COVID-19 patient remains off the ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.
