TWENTY EIGHT DANGEROUS PRODUCTS WITHDRAWN FROM THE MARKET

Twenty-eight (28) products, which are not foodstuffs, presenting a risk to their health and safety, were identified on the markets of various Member States of the European Union and subsequently notified to the SafetyGateRAPEX System, according to the Consumer Protection Agency (CSP) of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, which republishes the GNP.

Consumers can be informed about dangerous products on the EPA website at www.consumer.gov.cy.

The 28 products were allocated for market control purposes as follows:

Eight (8) to the Consumer Protection Agency.

Six (6) in the Department of Road Transport.

Six (6) in the Department of Electromechanical Services.

Seven (7) in the Department of Labour Inspection.

One (1) in the Department of Pharmaceutical Services.

The products related to the Consumer Protection Agency as well as the corresponding associated risks are described in the table here.

It should be noted that products with serial numbers 1 to 7 have been assessed by the European Commission as products of serious risk, while product number 8 has been assessed by the European Commission as a lower risk product.

The Consumer Protection Agency invites importers, distributors, sellers who may have such products to immediately cease their disposal and notify the Service.

According to the notice, the Consumer Protection Agency also calls on consumers in case they own the above products to stop using them and return them to the seller, i.e. from the store from which they have purchased them and at the same time to inform them about them.

It is noted that according to the Certain Aspects of the Sale of Consumer Goods and Related Guarantees Act, in case of purchase of an unsafe product, the consumer is entitled to replace the product so that the product complies with the terms of the sales contract. If this is not possible, then the consumer is entitled to withdraw, i.e. to return the product to the seller and receive back the full amount he paid. It is recalled that the above rights are valid for a period of 2 years from the initial delivery of the product to the consumer and that the sole responsibility to the consumer is always with the final seller.

In the event that the seller refuses to meet the above consumer rights, the consumer is invited to submit his complaint in writing via the website of the Consumer Protection Agency (www.consumer.gov.cy).
